CUSTOMS

Partnership with a customs agency

Since 2021, we have maintained a solid partnership with a customs agency to offer customs clearance solutions for exports and imports, both within the European Union and the United Kingdom. This partnership ensures a smooth and compliant process with customs formalities specific to each region, including different regulations within the UK (England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland), and even beyond when trading with other countries.

Support from our internal administrative department

(Regulation, formality, procedure)

We have a dedicated administrative department to manage all documentary and regulatory aspects of shipments, ensuring full compliance with current customs standards. Our team works closely with the customs agent to guarantee that all paperwork is properly completed and submitted.

Our administrative agents know the formalities, procedures and regulations and are the bridge between the customer and the declarant so that all the necessary information is gathered to carry out the customs clearance of the goods as required.

GMR

Since 2022 we have had the capacity to establish and monitor GMR. This system simplifies customs procedures by grouping multiple declarations under a single reference. In addition to managing customs declarations, RDV Transports ensures compliance with special rules that may apply to certain goods, such as specific product documentation or certifications.

What is GMR?

The GMR (Goods Movement Reference) is a unique number used in the GVMS (Goods Vehicle Movement Service) system, designed to facilitate trade between the EU and the UK.

It aims to make border crossings smoother and is used at several UK ports.

Logistics Envelope (Groupage)

Grouping of several partial batch declarations into a single barcode so that they are all scanned simultaneously when crossing the border.

Brexit: What are the impacts on customs formalities?

Since Brexit, trade between the EU and the UK has required businesses to navigate new customs formalities. Among these is the import declaration, which is mandatory for goods entering the UK from the EU. This, along with import/export declarations, VAT management, and customs duties, must be handled correctly to avoid delays and penalties. RDV Transports ensures that all required documents, including the import declaration, are properly prepared, allowing for smooth and compliant cross-border trade.

RDV Transports ensures that your goods comply with these updated requirements by coordinating all necessary documentation and formalities. Our partnership with customs experts allows us to prevent delays, avoid penalties, and maintain efficient cross-border trade. Although we are not a customs office, we work with reliable professionals to ensure every step of the customs clearance process is followed rigorously. These changes, while complex, can be managed effectively with the right preparation and expertise.

Essential documents for effective customs clearance

To ensure smooth border crossings post-Brexit, having accurate and complete documentation is vital. Beyond the usual commercial invoices and certificates of origin, customs declarations are now crucial for all goods moving between the EU and the UK. Additionally, documents specific to the destination country—such as licenses, sanitary certificates, or specific product documentation, may be required.

RDV Transports assists you in preparing all necessary paperwork, including export goods declarations. By ensuring these documents are ready and accurate, we help you avoid delays, comply with customs regulations between the EU and the UK, and minimize additional costs. Proper documentation is key to ensuring customs clearance runs smoothly and without disruption.

Simplified customs procedures through the GMR

The Goods Movement Reference (GMR) is now a crucial tool for expediting customs procedures, especially at UK ports using the GVMS (Goods Vehicle Movement Service). Since 2022, RDV Transports has been generating and managing GMRs for our clients. By consolidating multiple declarations into a single barcode, the GMR simplifies the customs process, ensuring faster clearance times and reducing the risk of delays at the border. This system not only streamlines the documentation but also enables real-time tracking, providing greater control over logistics and improving operational efficiency for businesses dealing with cross-border trade. The GMR also enhances coordination between customs authorities and transporters, ensuring smoother movement of goods and a more efficient supply chain.
